Blue Moon shot by Roger Miller 7-30-15

Last night at around 10:30, I went out with camera and tripod to try to get a good image of the ‘Blue Moon’.  (I was actually pre-empting it by a few hours as the full moon was not to occur until 6:43 the next morning – hardly a good time for shooting the moon.)  Here you can see a good view of the crater Tycho which is centered at the bottom of the moon with ejecta lines radiating outward from it.   This shot was taken using an iso setting of 320 at f22 and a shutter speed of 1/125.  I have cropped out the rest of the black sky so the eye focusses on the just the moon.  The Sony A77 with a Carl Zeiss lens is nothing short of incredible.  The most difficult part was getting a good focus since the moon was still fairly small in the viewfinder.

Also difficult were the tenacious mosquitos who feasted on me during the 45 minutes I was out shooting…
